Blue and Red Leg Veins

Prominent, unsightly leg veins are a common problem for most women. These are generally caused by hormones, prolonged standing, hereditary, obesity, pregnancy and aging. There are 3 different types of leg veins namely Varicose Veins, Reticular Veins and Spider Telangiectasia.

Reticular Veins are smaller bluish veins just visible under the skin which often form clusters which look similar to a matted bruise. If these veins are smaller than 3mm in size they can successfully be treated with the correct Laser Technology i.e. Nd:YAG (ELITE, Acclaim) or the Diode Laser. Laser is a perfect substitute and possibly more effective than sclerotherapy (the injection of medication which collapses the vein).

The laser penetrates the skin and targets the blood in the vein, coagulates it and it is then reabsorbed by the body. Certain vessels may take longer to be absorbed and initially appear darker.

A sharp or burning sensation may be experienced with each burst of laser. Immediately following the procedure the area may appear flushed / bruised and slight swelling may occur. This is usually of short duration. The area treated may feel warm as though it has been sun-burnt.

Multiple treatments may be necessary for best results. (Treatment every 3 months)
