Laser Treatment of Vascular Lesions

A vascular lesion is formed by abnormally large or numerous blood vessels located directly under the surface of the skin. These unsightly dilated blood vessels often occur on, near, or around the nose and also on the cheeks:

Telangiectasia

Facial spider veins caused by a dilation of capillary vessels or arterioles.

Cherry Angiomas

Raised, rounded red spots or lesions

Spider Angiomas

Raised, red spider like lesions

Rosacea

Red facial colour on and around the nose and cheeks causing a sun-burnt look.

Port Wine Stains

Often referred to as a ‘Birth Mark’. This is a type of vascular malformation present in about 1% of newborns, most commonly found on the face and neck it is visible at birth as a pinkish or blushed area. Over time the vessels become progressively more dilated and eventually assume a pebbled or nodular appearance. Optimal treatment is with the Pulsed Dye Laser. Multiple treatments are required and complete removal of the growth is not always possible.

The Procedure

All of the above Vascular Lesions conditions can easily be treated by the Diolite with KTP, ELITE Laser or the Pulsed Dye Laser.

The laser penetrates the skin and targets the blood vessels, coagulates them and they are then reabsorbed by the body. Certain vessels may take longer to be absorbed and initially appear darker.

A sharp or burning sensation may be experienced with each ‘snap’ of the laser. Mild superficial blistering and crusting may occur which usually disappears within in a few days. The area treated may feel warm as though it has been sun-burnt.

Treatments required: Vary depending on the type of Vascular Lesion.
