Skin CanerSkin Cancer is something that everybody needs to know about, as prevention is just as important as the cure. Being able to recognise the signs of early skin cancer can save lives. Can it be treated without surgery?Yes – with Photodynamic Therapy under the supervision of a Dermatologist on the MultiClear System (FDA Approved) Photodynamic therapy is highly effective in treating sun spots, and some skin cancers with a cure rate of over 90%. What is Photodynamic Therapy?Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is one of the newer techniques that uses a cream and light to treat sun damaged skin, skin cancers, aging, acne, and sun spots. It is non surgical, non invasive and produces excellent cosmetic results. A special cream is applied to the skin for approx 1 hour before the treatment. The cream is then activated by the Blue light (MultiClear) which in turn removes the abnormal cells, and allows normal skin to replace them. Who is suitable for PDT?PDT can be used on all age groups, all skin types and on all parts of the body where the skin is affected. Does PDT hurt? The treatments are painful but with the new MultiClear Unit – the average duration of each treatment is approx 20 seconds. A cooling fan is used to minimize this discomfort. No anesthetic is required. PDT makes the skin sensitive to sunlight for 48 hours after the treatment, so sunscreens are essential. Do I need time off work? You may be red and swollen for a few days after treatment. There may also be some peeling / blistering of the skin. A few days off work are recommended.
