Laser Resurfacing

Wrinkles, Ageing, Sagging Skin, Pigmentation, Blotches, Acne, Cauliflower Nose, Scaring?

There are a number of ways to rejuvenate the skin but the ultimate method of reversing the effects of aging and sun damaged skin is Laser Resurfacing! The Erbium laser is used for a lighter resurface whereas the CO2 Laser is used for a more severe resurface.

Both laser treatments are done by our resident Dermatologist under a General Anaesthetic at the Morningside Clinic or smaller areas under a local anaesthetic.

This type of invasive resurfacing removes the entire top (epidermal) layer of skin creating a visible ‘pus’ wound.

Postoperative Care is imperative and is directed towards keeping the raw, resurfaced skin moist, to allow for rapid re-growth of epidermis. An occlusive dressing is applied over the treated areas, keeping in moisture but allowing no air to pass through.

Pain is mild to moderate; severe pain may indicate an infection.

The skin suppurates and is extremely pink and sensitive. Makeup can be applied 2 weeks after the procedure. Sun exposure must be avoided for at least 3 months. Cortisone tablets are prescribed for the swelling in the first four days post resurfacing (Clients should not be discouraged if a few wrinkles recur as the swelling of the skin subsides.)

Results are excellent but the downside of the treatment is the recovery time which is approximately 3 weeks.
