PsoriasisPsoriasis is a common chronic skin disorder characterised by red skin patches covered with white scale. The most common areas for lesions are the elbows, knees and scalp but lesions may appear anywhere on the body. A definitive cure for psoriasis is still unavailable. Can it be treated?Yes – with the MultiClear System (FDA Approved) The MultiClear is an advanced, sophisticated phototherapeutic system which enables us to treat multiple medical and aesthetic disorders with different wavelengths of light. Using a computerized interface the therapist will choose the wavelength and dosing protocol most suitable to treat your Psoriasis. Treatment pulses last no more that a couple of seconds and are pain free. The treatment session normally lasts 5-8 min. Numerous treatments are needed as this is a very tenacious skin disorder. Results may be seen after the 2nd treatment. How does it work? The MultiClear uses a proprietary narrowband of UVB that has been proved to be safe and effective in the therapy of lesional psoriasis. The wavelengths of light emitted by the Multiclear decrease the excessive proliferation of the keratinocytes (skin cells) in the epidermis and decrease the inflammation in the dermis. This treatment has proven significantly faster results than full body PUVA and narrow band UVB treatments. What will I feel? Most experience some redness in the treated area. Redness typically appears 24 hours after a therapy and is usually pain free. In very rare cases a slight sunburn phenomenon will appear. Redness will generally subside in 3-5 days. What are the expected results?MultiClear is useful for patients with limited and stable Psoriasis covering up to 30% of body area and for stubborn lesions that did not respond to other treatments. Treatments are effective for all skin types and ages. Clinical work has shown response in up to 80% of treated patients. Treatments are usually delivered twice a week for 4-7 weeks. Response in individual patients may vary. Is it Safe?Excessive UV light exposure is associated with skin ageing and should be avoided. Reaction to MulitClear treatments can be compared to sunlight but in contrast to sun tanning, it delivers smaller doses of light than natural sun exposure or artificial “tanning boxes” and also only targets the desired area without any damage to the normal skin.
