Keloids and Raised Scars

UVA1 (360 – 370 nm) light is used to stimulate collagen production.  The scar is pulsed with UVA1 light which softens the scar immediately.  Approximately 6 – 8 treatments are needed but this does depend on how raised the keloid is.

If the scar is very raised it responds well to a combination of light and cortisone injections to reduce the keloid. The pulsed dye laser can also be used to treat keloids.
